Importance of Priority Sectors, Occupations, and Designated Employers

Only employers operating in a priority sector and hiring for a priority occupation can become designated for the FCIP. Foreign nationals require a job offer from a designated employer to gain a community recommendation. Upon receiving this recommendation, they can apply directly to the federal government for PR and may qualify for a two-year work permit to begin work while their PR application is processed.

Other Participating FCIP Communities

Besides the three regions above, the other selected communities are:

  1. Sudbury: Has revealed its priority sectors, occupations, and designated employers.
  2. Timmins: Has disclosed its priority sectors, occupations, and designated employers.
  3. Superior East Region: Yet to launch its FCIP website.

Eligibility Criteria for the FCIP

In addition to a job offer in a priority sector or occupation, candidates must meet these requirements:

  1. Work Experience: At least one year (1,560 hours) of related work experience in the past three years, waivable for international graduates meeting specific conditions.
  2. Language Proficiency: Minimum NCLC 5 in all four French language abilities.
  3. Education: At least a secondary school credential (Canadian or equivalent).
  4. Necessary Funds: Sufficient settlement funds to support themselves and their families.
