Express Entry
  • In 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) continues to select candidates for permanent residence through the Express Entry system under various targeted draws. But what does the profile of the pool look like today? How competitive is your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score? And what do the most recent draws tell us about your chances? This article breaks it all down.

The current composition of the Express Entry pool

  • As of November 9, 2025, the Express Entry pool included approximately 245,706 candidate profiles. Here’s the current breakdown:

  • Almost all CRS bands below 460 saw a decline in candidate numbers compared to the previous update, while the number of candidates with scores above 500 increased — showing the pool is getting more competitive.
  • The 601–1,200 range, which includes candidates with Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nominations, more than doubled since late October, indicating a strong provincial participation trend.

What this distribution means for applicants

  • Only a tiny fraction (0.28%) of all candidates have CRS scores above 600 — typically those nominated by a province.
  • Over 10% of candidates now have scores between 501 and 600, showing that more people are achieving very strong profiles through high language proficiency, education, and work experience.
  • The majority of candidates fall between 400 and 500, which remains the most competitive score zone.
  • If your CRS score is below 470, it may be time to explore category-based draws, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), or ways to boost your CRS score through language or credential improvements.

Over the last 30 days, IRCC issued 10,861 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) across six draws — more than in the preceding 30-day period. The highest number of ITAs came from a French-language proficiency draw, underscoring Canada’s effort to attract Francophone immigrants outside Quebec.

Interpreting the trends

  • PNP draws continue to show very high CRS cut-offs (738 – 778), emphasizing that nomination holders are automatically competitive.
  • Category-based draws (like French-language or healthcare) have lower cut-offs (416 – 472), opening new doors for skilled candidates who meet targeted criteria.
  • CEC-specific draws remain active for those with Canadian experience, with scores hovering in the low-500s.
  • The ongoing diversification of draw types suggests IRCC is balancing high-skilled immigration with regional and sectoral needs.

What you can do to strengthen your chances

  • Increase your CRS score: Retake IELTS or CELPIP to improve your language points.
  • Target provincial nomination: PNPs can add 600 points instantly, guaranteeing an ITA.
  • Stay ready for category-based draws: Healthcare, tech, trades, and French-language profiles remain high-priority.
  • Gain Canadian experience: Work experience under a valid permit can increase your CRS and eligibility for CEC draws.

The takeaway

  • As of November 2025, over 11% of all Express Entry candidates have CRS scores above 500, confirming the system’s rising competitiveness. While general draws may favor higher scores, category-based and PNP pathways remain accessible and strategic alternatives for qualified candidates.
  • If you’re uncertain about your score or need help building a stronger Express Entry profile, getting professional guidance can make all the difference.
