Fast-Track Your Career: Canada Prioritizes Essential Occupations for 2026

If you are a skilled worker in healthcare or agriculture, your path to Canada just got faster. IRCC has designated specific occupations as "essential services," granting them priority processing for work permit applications. This initiative aims to fill persistent labor market gaps by ensuring that critical workers can begin their roles in Canada without the typical long wait times.

Whether you are applying through an LMIA, Francophone Mobility, or the IEC program, knowing if your NOC code is on the priority list is the first step to an expedited arrival. Book a work permit consultation to see if your occupation qualifies for fast-track processing.

Healthcare Occupations Receiving Priority

The healthcare sector remains Canada's top priority. Almost all professional and technical roles in this field are eligible for expedited processing, including:

Nursing: Registered Nurses (31301), Licensed Practical Nurses (32101), and Nurse Aides (33102).
Physicians: Specialists in Clinical Medicine (31100), Surgery (31101), and Family Physicians (31102).
Technical Roles: Medical Lab Technologists (32120), Respiratory Therapists (32103), and Paramedics (32102).
Other: Pharmacists (31120) and Physician Assistants (31303).

✓ PR Pathway: All healthcare roles on the priority list (except NOC 41310) are also eligible for Express Entry Healthcare Category draws, often requiring much lower CRS scores for Permanent Residence.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Priority Roles

To secure Canada's food supply chain, IRCC is also fast-tracking workers in the agriculture and food processing sectors:

Food Processing: Industrial Butchers (94141), Retail Butchers (63201), and Fish/Seafood Plant Workers (94142).
Farming: Farm Supervisors (82030), Specialized Livestock Workers (84120), and Harvesting Labourers (85101).
Labourers: Food and Beverage Processing Labourers (95106) and Nursery/Greenhouse Labourers (85103).

⚠️ Note: While many of these roles get faster work permits, only "Butchers – Retail and wholesale" (63201) currently overlaps with the Express Entry Agriculture category for PR.

How to Trigger Priority Processing

Priority processing is not a separate application—it is triggered by how you fill out your standard work permit forms. To ensure your application is routed correctly, you must follow these precise steps:

1. Use the Exact NOC: Your application must use the exact NOC code that your employer used in the Employer Portal or on the LMIA.
2. The "Job Title" Field: In "Box 4" of the Details of Intended Work section, you should enter only the NOC code itself in the "Job Title" field.
3. Consistency: Ensure the NOC code, job duties, and job offer letter are perfectly aligned across all documents.

Expert Tip: This expedited process generally does not apply to open work permits (like PGWPs) because they are not tied to a specific employer or a priority NOC code.

Expert Guidance for Your Fast-Track Application

Triggering priority processing requires a high level of technical accuracy. A single mismatch between your job title and the NOC code can cause your application to be routed to the standard (slower) processing queue, or worse, lead to a refusal.

At Liberty Immigration, we specialize in essential service applications. We work with you and your employer to ensure your NOC code is selected correctly and your forms are filled out to trigger IRCC's internal routing for priority processing, getting you to Canada in record time.
