Express Entry

Executive Summary: The State of the Express Entry Pool

The Express Entry pool is currently experiencing a massive drain of top-scoring candidates. Thanks to a series of large, targeted draws, competition at the highest CRS levels has significantly eased in early 2026.

  • The Big Drop: Between mid-February and March 1, 80% of the profiles that exited the pool came from the ultra-competitive 501-600 CRS score range.
  • Uncounted ITAs: The most recent IRCC data does not even account for the massive 10,000+ ITAs issued during the first week of March, meaning the top tiers are even emptier than officially reported.
  • The Trend: If this pace continues, candidates hovering in the 480-500 range will be in an excellent position for upcoming CEC and targeted draws.

Express Entry Pool Analysis: Top-Tier Competition Drops Significantly

For months, the Express Entry pool felt hopelessly gridlocked. Candidates with scores in the high 400s were trapped, watching the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-offs linger above 510. However, the tide has officially turned.

According to the latest data released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the number of top-scoring profiles in the pool has dropped to levels not seen since 2024. The aggressive pace of targeted draws—specifically for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and French speakers—is effectively "clearing the ceiling" and easing competition for everyone else.

Evaluate Your CRS Score and PR Strategy Today

1. The Numbers: February 15 vs. March 1

Between February 15 and March 1, 2026, the Express Entry pool saw a net total of 3,161 profiles exit the system (either through receiving an ITA or having their profile expire).

The critical detail is where those profiles came from. A staggering 80% (2,528 profiles) of the decrease occurred in the 501-600 score range. Another massive decrease (1,116 profiles) happened in the 471-480 range.

Here is the official pool composition comparison:

2. The "Ghost" Draws: Why the Pool is Even Emptier

The data published on March 1 only tells half the story. It does not account for the massive wave of draws that occurred during the first week of March.

Between March 2 and March 5, IRCC issued an additional 10,014 ITAs:

What This Means for You:
Because those 10,000+ candidates have now been removed from the active pool, experts estimate that the number of profiles remaining in the highly competitive 501-600 scoring range may now be as low as 10,000. As the ceiling clears, the CRS cut-off scores will naturally be forced downwards in subsequent rounds.

3. How Competitive is Your Score Right Now?

To understand exactly where you stand against the competition, you have to look at the percentiles. This metric shows the percentage of the pool you are beating.

Based on the March 1 data (before the 10,000+ March draw purge), here is the competitive layout:

If Your CRS Score Is...You Are in the Top...
501 – 600Top 6.03% of all candidates
491 – 500Top 11.76% of all candidates
481 – 490Top 17.21% of all candidates
471 – 480Top 23.84% of all candidates
461 – 470Top 30.33% of all candidates
The Path Forward: If your score is in the 480s, you are highly competitive but still vulnerable to fluctuations. You should actively look to boost your CRS score through education or secure a Provincial Nomination to guarantee your selection.
