Express Entry Pool Analysis February 2026: Top-Tier Competition Drops 30%

Market Update: A Window of Opportunity
The latest data from the Express Entry pool reveals a massive shift. The "high-score bottleneck" is finally breaking, creating potential for candidates in the 480-500 range.
- 501-600 Scores: Dropped by 6,102 candidates (-29%).
- 600+ Scores: Dropped by 136 candidates (-24%).
- Overall Pool: Grew slightly (+1%) due to lower-score entries.
Number of Top-Scoring Express Entry Profiles Falls 30%
For the second consecutive month, competition at the very top of the Express Entry pool is cooling down significantly. New data released on February 2, 2026, shows that thousands of high-scoring profiles (CRS 501+) have exited the system, likely due to recent aggressive draw rounds.
While the total number of candidates in the pool has grown slightly to 238,920, the composition has shifted in favor of applicants with scores below 500. With fewer candidates hoarding the top spots, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cutoff scores for upcoming general draws may begin to stabilize or soften.
Calculate Your New CRS Ranking1. The Big Drop: Where Did the High Scorers Go?
Between January 4 and February 2, the pool saw a dramatic exit of elite candidates.
- 501–600 Range: This critical band saw the largest exodus, shrinking from 21,013 profiles to 14,911. That is a reduction of over 6,000 competitors in less than a month.
- 601–1200 Range: Candidates with provincial nominations (PNP) also decreased by roughly 24%, dropping to just 423 profiles.
Express Entry invites candidates from the top down. When the "ceiling" of 500+ scorers thins out, IRCC must dip deeper into the 480s and 490s to fill their quotas. If you are sitting at 485-495, your probability of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) just improved.

Conclusion: Is a Draw Imminent?
A shrinking top-end usually signals that IRCC has been clearing the backlog of high-scorers through large or frequent draws. If this trend continues, we may see general draw cutoffs dip back into the high 480s or low 490s in the coming weeks. However, candidates in the 470s should continue looking toward Category-Based Selection or PNP options to guarantee an invite.
