Early Career Workers from Partner Countries Can Get LMIA-Exempt Work Permits Through IEC

Canada offers an exciting opportunity for young professionals and students from select countries to gain valuable work experience through the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. Under this initiative, eligible youth can apply for one- to two-year work permits without the need for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), making the process faster and more straightforward compared to traditional work permit programs.
What is the IEC Program?
The International Experience Canada program is designed to promote youth mobility between Canada and countries that have bilateral Youth Mobility Agreements (YMAs). Through reciprocal arrangements, young Canadians can work abroad while eligible foreign nationals can live and work in Canada temporarily.
IEC offers three categories of participation:
- Working Holiday – An open work permit allowing flexibility to work for almost any employer in Canada.
- Young Professionals – A closed work permit for individuals with a job offer in a skilled position related to their professional background.
- International Co-op (Internship) – A closed work permit for students seeking internships as part of their academic program.
Benefits of the IEC Program
- No LMIA required – This makes the process faster and less complex.
- International work experience – Gain valuable skills and professional exposure.
- Opportunity to explore Canada – Live and work in different provinces or territories.
