NTNP Stream Eligibility (At a Glance)
To use our NTNP points calculator effectively, you must first qualify for one of the Northwest Territories' core economic immigration streams. Here are the primary pathways available in 2026:
NWT Express Entry Stream
- Must have an active Federal Express Entry profile.
- Must hold a permanent, full-time job offer from an eligible NWT employer in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Upon approval, candidates receive 600 CRS points guaranteeing a federal ITA.
Skilled Worker Stream
- Targeted at individuals with a job offer in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.
- Must have already worked in the position in the NWT for a minimum of 6 months.
- Does not require an Express Entry profile, making it a viable base-PNP route.
Entry Level / Semi-Skilled
- Designed to help employers fill shortages in NOC TEER 4 and 5 occupations.
- Must have already worked in the position in the NWT for a minimum of 6 months.
- Requires basic language proficiency (CLB 4).
Business Stream
- Requires a minimum investment of $300k CAD in Yellowknife or $150k CAD outside.
- Requires a personal net worth of $500k CAD (in Yellowknife) or $250k CAD (outside).
- Candidates must make a pre-application exploratory visit to the NWT.
How to Increase Your NWT EOI Score
If your NTNP points calculator score is on the lower end of recent draw cut-offs (e.g., below 336 points), consider these strategies:
- Relocate Outside Yellowknife: Job offers located in communities outside the corporate boundaries of Yellowknife instantly grant an extra 50 points.
- Maximize NWT Work Experience: Since the program is employer-driven, working for your NWT employer on a valid work permit grants massive points—up to 100 points for 3 years of experience, plus 50 points just for holding the permit.
- Pursue Targeted Trades: If your job offer is in one of the 11 targeted skilled trades (such as Carpentry, Plumbing, or Heavy Duty Mechanics), you receive a 40-point bonus.
What to Do After Being Selected
If your employer's Expression of Interest is selected in an NTNP draw, here is what happens next:
- Submit Formal Application: The employer is invited to submit the formal NTNP application on the portal. You will need to provide all certified documents (passports, educational credentials, language tests).
- Accept Nomination in Express Entry: If you applied via the Express Entry stream, you will receive a notification in your IRCC portal. Accepting it adds 600 CRS points.
- Apply for PR: Once nominated, you must submit your final permanent residency application to the federal government. There is no provincial application fee for the Employer-Driven Stream.
