The 2026 OINP Overhaul: Introducing the OWPS
On June 26, 2026, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) underwent a massive transformation, closing eight of its older streams, including the popular Employer Job Offer and Express Entry-aligned streams. In their place, Ontario launched a single, consolidated pathway: the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS).
To support this new stream, the province released a comprehensive 130-point Expression of Interest (EOI) scoring grid on July 20, 2026. Our OINP points calculator is calibrated precisely to this new 11-factor grid, ensuring you get an accurate estimate of your standing in the provincial pool.
Who is Eligible for the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream?
Before using the OINP points calculator to determine your competitive score, you must first meet the baseline eligibility for the OWPS. The stream is divided into three distinct pathways:
- TEER 0–3 Pathway: For skilled workers with a full-time, permanent job offer in management, professional, or technical roles.
- TEER 4–5 Pathway: For essential workers in intermediate or support roles with a full-time, permanent job offer.
- Self-Employed Physicians: A specialized pathway for doctors who hold a valid certificate of registration with the CPSO and are eligible to bill through OHIP. This pathway does not require a traditional job offer and is exempt from the wage scoring factor.
How the 130-Point Scoring Grid Works
Once your profile is registered in the EOI pool, Ontario ranks candidates out of a maximum of 130 points based on their human capital and the economic value of their job offer. Here is a breakdown of the key factors:
1. Employment and Regional Factors
- Work Region (Max 15 points): Ontario is pushing immigration outside of the Greater Toronto Area. Jobs in Northern Ontario receive the maximum 15 points, while jobs inside the City of Toronto receive 0 points.
- Occupational Category (Max 10 points): Priority sectors earn the highest points. Healthcare occupations earn 10 points, Trades earn 8 points, and STEM roles earn 6 points. General business, finance, and administration roles earn 4 points.
- Hourly Wage (Max 15 points): Offers paying $40.00/hour or more secure the highest points. Note: This factor is bypassed for self-employed physicians.
2. Work Experience & Tax History
- Ontario Work Experience (Max 18 points): You are rewarded heavily for working specifically in the role you are being offered. 24+ months in the job-offer position yields 18 points. General Ontario experience maxes out at 12 points.
- Canadian Earnings History (Max 8 points): Based on your Notice of Assessment (NOA) from the last five years, earning $70,000+ per year adds 8 bonus points to your profile.
3. Education & Language
- Language Proficiency (Max 25 points): Scoring CLB 9+ across all four abilities in your first official language earns 15 points. You can add 10 bonus points for bilingualism if you score at least CLB 6 across all four abilities in both English and French.
- Education (Max 20 points): Points are split between your highest credential (up to 10 points for a Doctorate or MD) and possessing Canadian credentials (up to 10 points for holding two or more Canadian credentials).
